Becky met with both a radiation oncologist and a medical oncologist at the OU Health Science Center this past week in anticipation of beginning her treatments. The radiologist repeated her MRI as part of the planning process. They found that the cancer has grown very rapidly. Where before they saw some minor changes in her spine, the cancer has definitely spread down her spine. She will begin radiation treatments to her cerebellum and spinal cord on Wednesday. The treatments will be five days a week for six to seven weeks. This will make her very tired and she will be susceptible to infection. About a month after completing the radiation treatments, she will begin several months of chemotherapy. She will also begin physical therapy within the next two weeks.
To help decrease some of Becky's symptoms and headaches, the doctors are giving her daily steroids. This will make Becky's blood sugar rise and decrease her body's ability to heal and fight infection. Even though like most of us, Becky has a sweet tooth, please keep in mind she does not need a lot of foods with a high sugar content including fast foods and ice cream.
We appreciate everyone's prayers and offers of help. We do ask that you please contact Lorna Saunders, saunders27@yahoo.com, if you'd like to be of service. She knows the needs of the family and will be able to direct you on the best ways to assist the them.

Becky, I don't personally know you, but I know your mom and dad and many of the Parker clan. I love you and pray that your faith will carry you with joy to wherever our Father in Heaven is leading you. Some of my life experiences have come at the cost of great pain, times of doubt and anguish, then a sense of awe when the picture becomes more clear and I understand the great love with which Father in Heaven has designed my "school experiences" here in mortality. There are sure a lot of my own experiences that are not yet joyful because I can't see what is going to happen. My faith is growing that every one of these hard times and unfair situations has been specially designed to teach and lead me to greater trust in Jesus Christ. I love Him. He loves me, and because I see such evidence in my life, I know he also loves and cares deeply for you and your family. Lean into His love. No matter how hard you lean, He will not move or fail to support you.
Love,
Greta
