To Whom It May Concern

Dear Friends of Becky,
We know that many of you are very concerned about Becky and would like to know more about how she is doing. Hopefully the following information will be helpful.
As you know Becky had a brain biopsy Wednesday. She is now home from the hospital and doing quite well. The pathology results show that she has an anaplastic astrocytoma which is located in the cerebellum with possible spread to the spinal cord.
The cerebellum consists of two hemispheres and is the second largest area of the brain. It is in located in the lower base of the skull and controls muscular coordination and articulation.
An anaplastic astrocytoma is a medium grade malignant cancer which has star shaped cells. Because it in not a localized tumor but is wrapped around the cerebellum and in an inaccessible area of the brain, it is inoperable. However, it may respond to radiation and chemotherapy.
Currently we are doing everything we can to learn more about the cancer and treatment options. At this time we do not know the long term prognosis but we hope and pray for the best.
If you visit Becky you will notice very few symptoms. She has recovered beautifully from her operation. Her favorite shape is a star so she is happy that if she must have cancer it has star shaped cells.
Becky and William are currently staying with Jennifer. She enjoys some company but gets frustrated with a lot of noise and typically has headaches in the morning. Since she tires easily please call Becky on her cell phone before visiting.
We thank all of you for your concern and prayers,
The Parkers and Sewells

Hi Becky, It's Nancy Ashby from Provo. I'm Karens next door neighbor. I just wanted you to know how impressed I was with you when you lived out here and to let you know that you are in my prayers. I wish peace and comfort for you and your husband. Heavenly Fathers knows the big picture. Keep your faith in him, stay strong and possitive! Love, Nancy

Becky,
I am so impressed with your optimism. I don't know how I would deal with such complicated circumstances. I remember a talk I heard in church once and the speaker indicated that when we are faced with a difficult situation we should not ask ourselves "Why me?" but ask ourselves "What can I learn from this?" At this point you can tell me to shutup but it seems to have stuck with me and I think of it often when I am faced with difficult circumstances. Hopefully you can find what you need within yourself to keep your strength and optimism.
Good luck with everything,
Christina Stuart (Drayton)
